At-Home Practice

Practicing at home is required of all students in the studio. Students should practice 4-6 days per week. Practice times depend on the child’s age and level, and the right amount of time to practice will be determined on a one on one basis with the teacher and student. Students will be taught practice strategies during lessons to help guide them, and assigned weekly homework written down in the student’s notebook. Consistency is important in learning, especially in music study. Regular practice assures rapid improvement of musicianship and skills. Students are enrolled with the understanding that they have access to a piano or an appropriate electronic keyboard in their home for practice. Make practice your daily routine and concentrate on completing your homework according to the instructor’s suggestions written in the student’s notebook. Parents’ role in developing good practice habits cannot be overestimated. It is often parents who keep their children motivated and focused on the task. Parents are recommended to monitor the student’s homework completion on a weekly basis.

Approximate amount of time to practice each day:

  •  Beginners: 15-20 minutes
  • Intermediate: 30-45 minutes
  • Advanced: 45-60 minutes and beyond

Tuition/ Lesson Time

Lesson times are based on the age of the student and level of proficiency on their instrument. Lessons will be taught once a week and tuition is to be paid on a flat monthly basis. Depending on the month, there may be three, four, or five lessons. An invoice will be sent to you at the end of each month, and payment is expected by the 1st of the following month. There is a $10 late fee for tuition that is paid after the 7th of each month. Every Week another $10 will be added to the late fee until tuition is paid. Students beginning lessons midway through a calendar month will have their first month’s tuition prorated according to how many weeks are left in the month. There is a $40 registration fee for new students to cover their initial books and materials. After that books will either be sold to the students, or purchased by the student. There is a $40 recital fee per student for formal recitals. Retirement Home Community service Concerts are free of charge for students to perform at.

Cancellation Policy

The Studio has a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you give notice of 24 hours or more before your appointment, then it may be possible to rearrange the lesson depending upon availability, but it is not guaranteed. If you give less than 24 hours notice, then lessons cannot be rescheduled. If there is inclement weather, or the child is mildly ill, there is a possibility to move the lesson online.  If the teacher is the one to cancel the lesson due either to a performing conflict or an illness, then either a make-up lesson will be made available, or there will be a prorated tuition for the following month. If you plan on discontinuing lessons, written notice must be given, and no refunds will be made available if it is the middle of the month. I reserve the right to discontinue a student’s lessons at any time if they are consistently not practicing and coming unprepared to lessons, if there are excessive unpaid lesson fees, the student shows no interest in playing their instrument, or regularly exhibit severe behavioral issues during their lessons.

Holidays and Summer

There will be a prorated tuition during the month of December due to holidays. Summer lessons are not mandatory, but highly encouraged to keep up your musical skills, and are structured based on a sign up system.
